We hike together. We hurt together. And today we honor two families.
In our hiking community, we all understand the unspoken truth: when we step onto a trail, we trust each other with our lives. We watch each other’s footing, share water, share shade, share strength. Out there, we become family.
The loss of John Giusti and Brent Rosenkranz has shaken every one of us who has ever laced up boots and stepped into the Canyon. These men were fathers, husbands, friends and they were doing what we all do: hiking with people they cared about, believing they’d come home with stories.
When tragedy strikes one of us, the first thing we think is simple and human:
Please let their families be taken care of.
At the very least, let them have the support they need to bring their loved one home, honor them and lay them to rest with dignity.
Two families are now carrying a weight no family should ever have to bear. As hikers , as people who understand risk, love and loss we stand with them.

We hurt together.
