π Dear Mom and Dad,
I can't believe Enrichment Camp is over! I learned so much and had a great time while doing it.
On our last day, Ms. Maggie visited us and showed us some amazing science demonstrations, including this Fireball. Then we played Figurative Language Dominos.
Thanks for letting me come to Enrichment Camp- I can't wait until next year!
Love,

Let's explore some ways to prevent summer slide through STRESS-FREE WRITING!
βοΈ Drawing with simple labels or captions: Let your child draw a short sequence of pictures about their favorite summer activity, then label the panels with speech bubbles and short sentences.
βοΈ Outdoor Sidewalk Chalk: Encourage large motor-skill practice by having your child spell and write sight words using large, colorful sidewalk chalk.
βοΈ Scavenger Hunt Labels: Have your child find five to seven interesting items in the backyard, such as a pretty rock πͺ¨, a flower π·, a feather πͺΆ, or the like. Ask them to write a one-word descriptive label for each on an index card, and tape the cards and objects together.
βοΈ Story Scribe: Let your child tell a story while you write it. Later, practice echo or choral reading to read your child's masterpiece!
βοΈ Use speech-to-text tools: To reduce handwriting fatigue, allow your child to use voice-to-text to dictate a story or journal entry, then practice writing down just one or two sentences by copying their own dictated words. As with Story Scribe, practice echo or choral reading when you read the story together.
π Tip: Focus on ideas, not spelling perfection
βοΈ Remember: A little each day goes a long way!

We might be biased, but we can't think of a sweeter passtime than having a read-aloud in the sunshine. Mrs. PJ and her Summer Reading Campers enjoyed their afternoon reading sesh!

Let's explore some fun ways to prevent summer slide through READING!
π Choral & Echo Reading: Take turns reading a sentence aloud (echo) or read a page simultaneously together (choral) to model fluency without causing frustration.
π Audio-Book Pairings: Use services like Learning Ally or Libby to provide human-read audiobooks. Have your child listen to the story while following along with a physical copy of the book. This improves comprehension while easing the physical toll of decoding.
π Real-World Reading: Have your child read things they encounter organically. Ask them to read a local movie schedule, a restaurant menu, or the weather forecast before you leave the house. Cooking and baking together also provide endless opportunities for real-world reading. Have your child read the recipe instructions aloud. This forces them to slow down and read carefully to ensure the task is completed correctly.
π Word Games: Play games that require rapid word manipulation. Tools like Boggle, Wordle, Snap it Up, naturally build phonemic awareness and pattern recognition without feeling like schoolwork.
π Tip: Let your child choose what they read!
