One of the latest buzz words in education is “Personalized Learning”. The concept is to have a means to adapt to the learning needs of each student. Tutoring is usually achieved one to one. This is also what happens when a student meets with the teacher outside of a regular class time. A big advantage of tutoring is that the teacher has to adapt to the student, meet them where they are and help hem grow from there. Technology offers some helpful tools but technology plus an involved teacher is optimal.

Local Tutoring Service Pickens and Anderson Districts

Update on Tutorpro-SC: this service provides instructional help for students of physics, chemistry and math. As proprietor, I am SC State certified and experienced in teaching HS math, physics and chemistry. In operation for 10 years in the Pickens County area of upstate SC, over 200 students have been helped to better understand their subjects and raise their grades. Some students just need a few weeks of getting over some tough spots. Some others, I have worked with for one to all four schools years in high school. Dozens of students have received preparation for the SAT or ACT tests. While these tests claim to show college readiness, they are actually competitions designed to find the top 15% of high school students. Our State Government has been using the test results to evaluate the performance of our high schools - big mistake. A few hours of high pressure timed testing of math, reading and writing and for the ACT basic science in no way equates to GPA's to show student performance. GPA's also are a far better indication of probable success in college.

This current semester we have seen an unusually large number of students seeking assistance. Tutoring works because the tutor has to adapt to the student, where-ever he or she is academically rather than the student trying the fit in to the general states of many students in the class room. One on one teaching can accomplish more learning in a shorter time.
