💭 Thinking out loud: Pre-hab before I even knew I needed it.
Last Sunday, I ejected off my mountain bike. 🚵🏼♀️💥 It was scary, to say the least, and we happened to get it on film 😅
✨I got SUPREMELY lucky. This crash could have ended very differently. Yet somehow, no broken bones! My shoulder joint is stiff and unhappy 😣—but overall, I walked away remarkably okay.
And it got me thinking about something I talk about all the time here at Purpose:
The movement we practice in a controlled environment can help prepare us for the moments we can’t control.
I can’t say that Pilates or strength training prevented an injury. But I can say that years of consistently working on strength, mobility, stability, body awareness, and reaction to load gave my body a pretty solid foundation before it hit the ground.
For me, Pilates has always been cross-training for the things I love doing outside the studio. Strength training makes me stronger for them. Neither guarantees that I won’t get hurt—but both help build a body that’s better prepared to handle whatever life (or a mountain bike 😵💫) throws at it. 💖
Turns out, I was doing pre-hab before I even knew I needed it.
That’s my message for you, too. Keep showing up. Keep building strength. Keep practicing mobility and control.
You may be training for more than you realize. 🙏🏼
