Vail Valley Unbound We’re a K-5 school designed for builders and creators. An entrepreneurial approach to education. Being decisive doesn’t always mean being correct.

Entrepreneurship is defined as “the pursuit of opportunity beyond the resources currently controlled.” While we don’t explicitly set out to have all of our students become entrepreneurs, we believe that the characteristics of entrepreneurs prepare children for the world. We focus on developing seven key characteristics that we believe are not only important to entrepreneurs but to everyone!

1) Curiosity: Rather than settling for what they think they know, our learners ask challenging questions and explore different avenues. We create structured experiments to determine if an idea is worth pursuing. We stay curious.

2) Adaptability: The nature of business and life is ever-changing. Entrepreneurship is an iterative process, and new challenges and opportunities present themselves at every turn. We are adaptable.

3) Decisiveness: As a leader, entrepreneurs are responsible for guiding the trajectory of their business, including every aspect from funding and strategy to resource allocation. We make challenging decisions and see them through.

4) Team Building: A great entrepreneur is aware of their strengths and weaknesses. Rather than letting shortcomings hold them back. We build well-rounded teams based on strengths and weaknesses in ourselves that we embrace.

5) Risk Tolerance: Entrepreneurs are comfortable with encountering some level of risk to reap the rewards of their efforts; however, their risk tolerance is tightly related to their efforts to mitigate it. We take calculated risks.

6) Growth Mindset: It’s estimated that nearly 75 percent of new startups fail. We thrive on challenges and use our failures to grow and improve.

7) Critical Thinking: By developing critical thinking skills, our learners are well-equipped to spot innovative opportunities, think about the big picture and long-term vision. We use Socratic questioning to flex our critical thinking muscles and build skills.

Curious minds start here. 💡

At Vail Valley Unbound, learning isn’t one-size-fits-all. Students move through self-paced, mastery-based curriculum that meets them where they are academically. This gives them the opportunity to be challenged, build confidence, and take real ownership of their progress.

Our Guides use questions, encouragement, and thoughtful challenges to help learners think deeply, solve problems, collaborate, and discover what they’re capable of.

When learners have ownership, learning becomes theirs. 🌟

An Unbound Exhibition puts learners in the driver’s seat. They decide what they want to share, how they want to share it, and how to bring their learning to life for an authentic audience.

Over the past several weeks, our Lower Elementary learners have stepped back in time, exploring the world of Ancient Greece through hands-on challenges, mythology, philosophy, mathematics, and the foundations of democracy.

From Olympic Games and togas adorned with laurel wreaths to Greek cuisine and explorations of the geography and landscape, families traveled throughout the school, experiencing the discoveries our learners made along the way.

The experience concluded with a badge ceremony, celebrating the hard work, perseverance, and growth our learners demonstrated throughout their Quest.

We couldn’t be prouder of the hard work and dedication our learners poured into their first Quest of the year!

Next up…Game Design! 🎲

Exhibition prep is underway in Lower Elementary! ✨

This isn’t about practicing what to say, it’s about taking ownership of what they want to share.

Our learners are working together to shape Thursday’s exhibition: listening to one another’s ideas, deciding what felt most important from their learning, remembering the moments they want their families to experience, and figuring out how to bring it all together.

There’s no presentation created for them and no script waiting to be memorized. They decide what matters. They decide how to share it. They build the experience themselves.

See ya Thursday at 2:30!
