Northern Wisconsin IONS Community Group

Northern Wisconsin IONS Community Group The group meets the second Saturday of each month at the Olson Memorial Library, Eagle River WI, from 11:45 to 2:30.

The Northern Wisconsin IONS Community Group participants view and discuss videos and learn noetic practices from the IONS website (noetic.org), those of their collaborators, and occasional relevant presentations by local speakers. The Northern Wisconsin IONS Community Group participants view and discuss videos from the IONS website or those of their collaborators, and occasional relevant presentat

ions by local speakers. Topics include scientific research and practices regarding consciousness (during and after life), interconnection, human potential, integrative and complementary health and wellness practices, science and spirituality, and personal and societal transformation. To support the “Noetic Handshake” and facilitate the development of one's “Noetic Signature”, meetings also include practices, eg brief guided imagery or meditations, as presented in the videos or by the facilitator. When the weather allows, attendees can also utilize the outdoor labyrinth at the meeting facility. The Northern Wisconsin IONS Community Group serves members and friends of the Institute of Noetic Sciences, a nonprofit organization dedicated to research and education on consciousness, human potential, and personal and social transformation. [Group Name] is wholly independent of the Institute and may be legally and financially responsible for its own activities. Views expressed by speakers, facilitators, and participants do not necessarily reflect the views of the Institute of Noetic Sciences (IONS).

Astronaut Edgar Mitchell also experienced the Overview Effect. He founded The Institute of Noetic Sciences (IONS) and they now have materials to facilitate the Overview Effect for those of us who are earthbound.

This NPR article on William Shatner's experience. The article attributes the term to "space philosopher Frank White in his 1987 book of the same name".

I'll post a link to the IONS information in the comments.

William Shatner was excited to go to space last year. He didn't realize he'd be overwhelmed with sadness and go through "the strongest feelings of grief" that he'd ever experienced.

Congratulations to Dr. Helene Wahbeh! I'm reading and really enjoying this book! From the IONS website:

Nautilus Book Awards Winner: The Science of Channeling

We are delighted to share that the book The Science of Channeling: Why You Should Trust Your Intuition & Embrace the Force That Connects Us All by Dr. Helané Wahbeh, IONS Director of Research, has won the notable Nautilus Book Award!

The book was released in 2021 and was born out of a desire to provide grounded research to explain experiences commonly considered inexplicable: accessing information or energy beyond our five senses. Dr. Helané Wahbeh has since created a homonymous course where you’ll explore this fascinating topic and your relation to it closer. You can check out the book and course here.

The Science of Channeling was selected in the Science & Cosmology category for the 2022 awards. Among previous winners are names like Eckhart Tolle and Marianne Williamson. The Nautilus Awards represent Better Books for a Better World.

Through the awards, Nautilus has honored and given wider recognition to authors and books within areas like spirituality, personal growth, conscious living, and social justice for over 20 years. Books running for the award need to go through a thorough selection process. Three independent teams of expert reviewers – typically with careers in science or literature – scrutinize each book for a number of criteria.

Winning the award is good news since it means more exposure for The Science of Channeling and IONS, leading to increased awareness around channeling and noetic experiences – and hopefully more acceptance by the mainstream.

Finally, there’s a beautiful synchronicity in the meaning of the word “nautilus” and IONS. Nautilus is a mollusk with a mesmerizing, pearl-lined shell. As the sea creature grows, it creates chambers of increasing size. The nautilus symbolizes the merging of ancient wisdom and expanding horizons. In theory, its spiral-like shape could grow infinitely big, reflecting the unbound nature of noetic experiences and the evolution of consciousness.

The meeting scheduled for this coming Saturday, May 14, is cancelled!

It's a rare occurrence and I apologize for any inconvenience.

Next meeting will be Saturday, June 11th; topic will be Lucid Dreaming! Hope to see you then!

About 30 years ago while researching stress and health I came across an article about Candace Pert's research on the “Molecules of Emotion” in a publication by The Institute of Noetic Sciences. I was intrigued by both the article and the organization. With a closer look I was hooked!

The Institute, IONS for short, delved into out-of-the-ordinary topics yet did so based in the scientific method. They bridged the accepted methods of discovery in our culture with subjects not often discussed, at least by most folks. I learned they had “Community Groups”, attended a workshop put on by a Community Group in my region and felt I'd found my tribe! I decided if there wasn't a group where I eventually settled I'd start one!

Hi, I'm Jan Lewis and I'm the facilitator of the Northern Wisconsin IONS Community Group and administrator of this page. I thought I'd tell you a bit about myself and why I wanted to start this group.

The “me” part: I've facilitated IONS Community Groups before, I've formally studied human development, holistic stress management, diversity studies, and mental health. I've developed and presented research-based programs on alternative healing modalities, stress and coping, and women as healers including the role of intuition. Woven through my studies and programming is the perspective of quantum physics: I believe there's more to our world than the mechanistic viewpoint that has been dominant. Enter IONS.

“I realized that the story of ourselves as told by science—our cosmology, our religion—was incomplete and likely flawed. I recognized that the Newtonian idea of separate, independent, discrete things in the universe wasn’t a fully accurate description. What was needed was a new story of who we are and what we are capable of becoming.” Dr. Edgar Mitchell

Mitchell, founder of IONS, “saw a need to reconcile his training as an engineer and astrophysicist with the wisdom of the ages to transcend the limitations of what he saw as an outdated materialist worldview. A new framework would be needed: one that could help explain the unexplainable—and spark transformation. He called this framework 'noetic sciences'.”

Here's why I love IONS:
IONS “trains the lens of science onto noetic phenomena...to gain a deeper understanding of the interconnected nature of reality. How can we better access this place of inner knowing? What are the practices that enhance our experiences of transformation, innovation, and well-being? What can science reveal to enhance those practices? How does this positively transform our lives and create a better world for all?”

IONS Community Groups are places to explore the science and inner knowing. This group will bring together the “Noetic Handshake” (“the inclusion of science and direct experience”) and opportunities to discover one's “Noetic Signature” (“personal capacities for noetic knowings”).

In the time I've facilitated IONS Community Groups one common statement I've heard from attendees is “I can't talk about these things anywhere else!”.

Sound like a fit? If so, check out the Second Saturdays meetings in Eagle River. First one is today, April 9th at the library in Eagle River (11:45 to 2:30 – bring your lunch!)

The Global Coherence Pulse was mentioned in the video for the upcoming Community Group meeting April 9th. From their "About" section:

"Could communities around the world, synchronized in heart-centered coherence, help catalyze an evolutionary leap for humanity to vibrant health and wholeness with all beings, in which the love of power is eclipsed by the Power of Love?

This is the purpose of the Global Coherence Pulse, a science-backed social collaboration to Pulse the Planet with the frequencies of love and compassion, joy and appreciation, being monitored by global instrumentation networks to help science tell the story of our interconnectedness and of the power of our Collective Heart."

IONS Chairperson Claudia Welss and HeartMath Institute and Global Coherence Initiative director of research Rollin McCraty cofounded the Global Coherence Pulse.

The April event is on the 16th and has an Earth Day focus.

Join thousands of people across the world who are adding coherent heart energy to lift global consciousness and cultivate personal and planetary health and wellbeing.
