Have you read The Labors of Hercules Beal by Gary Schmidt? It is wonderful! While it won't work for my high school students, it is perfect for middle school. And it has won a ton of awards. I think it would work perfectly for a student choice or independent reading novel if you don't have time to teach it in your class this year.

It seems like the ACT test is just around the corner. Do you need to help students review for the English test?
Check out my review sheets (link below) to help your students review the grammar rules they need to know for the ACT English Test.

Teaching Tip: after students have taken the practice test, go through the answers in the English section and have students identify what grammar rules they missed and they can review them (or last minute study them - we know they all do it).

Our prep time or prep period is a gift - one that I always want more of. The first thing I changed in order to help me leave at contract time was to use my prep period more wisely.

When you teach Secondary English, then you know the dread that comes when you start getting essays turned in.

Do you estimate how much time it will take to grade those 150 essays?

Do you question why you even assigned the essay to begin with, when you realized it may take 8-10 hours to grade all those essays (at the fastest!)
