This is what it looks like when training transfers to the field.
The officer whose body camera you’re watching attended our Foundation Instructor Trainer (FIT) course and shared this footage with us of local officers and jail deputies using the STORM Training Group curriculum during a real-world encounter.
The subject was highly agitated, threw his phone to the ground, refused repeated commands to lock down, and continued escalating. When he jumped up and struck the television, officers immediately closed distance and went hands-on.
Watch the teamwork.
Multiple officers secure the upper body and stay tight and connected. The body-worn camera officer clearly communicates that he has the legs, bundles them without lifting, and the team uses our multiple-officer takedown to lower the subject to the ground under control.
Because the officers maintained control of the arms throughout the takedown, they didn’t have to fight to recover arms from underneath the subject. They transitioned directly into team ground control and handcuffing.
No strikes.
No intermediate tools.
No yelling.
No chaos.
Just calm communication, leverage, positioning, and teamwork.
Even while the subject continues resisting, the officers don’t rush. They establish control before introducing handcuffs, present the wrists to the handcuffing officer, check the cuffs for proper fit, double-lock them, and then promptly move the subject out of the prone position.
What stands out most to us is how routine it looks.
Nobody is frantic. Nobody is trying to overpower the subject individually. It looks like a repetition in the training room because everyone understands their role and is working from the same playbook.
The result: the officers stay safe, the subject stays safe, and a highly agitated, actively resisting person is brought under control without a single strike or intermediate tool.
And apparently there was still enough composure left for a critique of the officer’s tight pants and a little shoe-flip on the way out. 😂
This is why we train.
