Happy New Year!

Our School Year Tutoring Program is essentially a coaching program. Although it involves teaching and assistance with homework when needed, our tutoring sessions are different as they are designed to provide continuous support and guidance of the student over the course of the school year.

The typical public-school classes have 20-25 students, if not more. This large of a class forces the teacher to teach at an average pace. Unfortunately, for some students, the pace is too slow, and they get bored. On the other hand, for others, the pace is too fast causing peer pressure and fear of ‘looking dumb', affecting their confidence and the learning process. As a result, they live with a constant feeling of being behind.

In sports, good performance and especially high performance require consistent practice. Consistency over time is more important than increased efforts focusing on boosting short-term results.

The same applies when learning math. Math is built on levels where one level is the foundation of the next level. A knowledge gap acts like a crack that gets wider and wider over time. With one-on-one tutoring, where the student meets the same tutor on a weekly basis, we are able to eliminate these gaps and build a solid foundation. Since math is the basis (or part) of many different concepts and principles, at Math Addvantage, we will help position your student for future success not only in math, but in future studies as well.

We understand that enrollment in the weekly tutoring may be a financial undertaking for the parents, but the price of not positioning the student for future success is much higher.

Meet our tutors - Mat
Mathew Boehlke graduated from Wisconsin Lutheran College with a degree in Mathematics. While there, he earned several scholarship awards for performance in Mathematics. Mathew has worked with students of many different ages in the past, from working with elementary students in after school programs to tutoring undergraduate chemistry students while at WLC. Mat started tutoring at Math Addvantage in 2015.

School Year Tutoring Program - the most successful and impactful program at Math Addvantage!

The overall purpose of this program is to solidify concepts and build a strong foundation for future studies where Math is required. This includes all Engineering Studies, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Accounting and Finances, Business Analytics and Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, etc.

Our experienced tutors are able to quickly identify the student’s math comprehension level and identify knowledge gaps from previous levels. In an effort to build a strong math foundation, our weekly program not only prepares the student for upcoming tests and quizzes, but is also used to review new and/or upcoming concepts to help solidify understanding when the material is taught in class.

For students who enroll in regular, weekly sessions, we will reserve the time slot for meeting with the same tutor every week, on the same day and time. The duration of a session is 50 minutes, and the tutor will email the parent a summary after every session, highlighting the student’s level of understanding and describing the concepts covered.

We are offering one extra session free of charge per trimester. Most frequently, this is used in connection with final exams, but we can also accommodate different times.

We have a few openings for our School Year Tutoring Program, where we offer private weekly tutoring for all math subjects, covering all grades – from Elementary to Calculus.

Our sessions are held at our center in Eagan, but remote sessions are also available.

Unlike franchised entities where tutors are required to follow a strict curriculum (and many times different from what students learn at school), our experienced tutors provide individual support using the materials and methods studied in the classroom.

The ACT Addvantage

According to a report published by ACT, the organization that administers the ACT Test, report quoted and analyzed by Star Tribune*, the high school students’ scores have dropped to their lowest level in more than three decades, falling for six consecutive years. In Minnesota, the average composite ACT score was 21 out of 36, a score that also dropped to its lowest point in at least a decade.

While many colleges and universities no longer require an ACT Test for admission, the experience shows that students are confronted with serious challenges as they lack the necessary foundation for entry-level courses where math and reading are essential. Therefore, students must put additional efforts to compensate for this lack of foundation.

On the other hand, a high ACT score provides not only more options in terms of colleges or university to attend, but also the possibility to receive credits for some of the entry level courses. This leads to significant saving in terms of study efforts and tuition costs.
