Behind the scenes preparation for a session today! This 4th grader has difficulty with word problems and focuses too much on looking for the key word that it distracts him from what is actually happening! Today we are going to look at word problems and focus on labeling a story type to determine what operation will be used to solve.

Here are some reasons why it is so important as a tutor to form a connection with your students! They will feel more confident, they will be more willing to try, and they will be honest about not understanding something and asking for help. Having that connection will build their trust for you and motivate them to try harder to improve.

Here are some of my favorite books that I’ve read within the last year. As you can see I love Kristin Hannah! If you want to learn about history you should read her books! I learned so much that I didn’t know about World War 2, the Vietnam War, and the Great Depression from reading her books. The Nightingale is my top favorite from Kristin Hannah
I also love a good romance! These are the types of books that got me into reading. Archer’s Voice is an adorable love story combined with overcoming trauma. Definitely my favorite romance I’ve read!

Let’s face reality: a common challenge I see is a student’s learning style doesn’t always align with the way they are being taught. This is not to shame any teachers or any students, it is very difficult for a teacher to use a style that will work for every student in their class.
This is where private tutoring is beneficial.
I address this challenge by working with the student to find the best way they learn. I use what works for them to go over what was taught in class in a way that is easier for them to understand. We take our time and go over tricky concepts until they fully understand it.
