Let’s talk about grants - ever wonder where our grant money goes?

This past school year, we funded 33 grants across our district with dollars going to STEM (29%), books & literacy (17.1%), art & music (15.4%), professional development (14.3%), enrichment (10.2%), classroom support (7.2%), and tech & safety (6.2%).

We look for projects that inspire learning, engage students, introduce helpful resources, and make a big impact across our schools. REF gives grants year‑round, and your support helps bring these innovative ideas to life! 💡📚❤️

Thanks to REF funding, CLIP high school students spent a day at Camp River Ranch participating in guided team‑building and challenge‑course activities.

The experience strengthened communication, collaboration, and problem‑solving, skills that carry into the classroom and help build a more connected school community.

This grant was created in response to student feedback identifying peer connection as a top need, and the trip was designed specifically to support that priority. Staff and students participated side‑by‑side, building relationships that continue to shape the school year.

REF was proud to help bring this idea to life and foster belonging, teamwork, and a more connected school community! 💪

The numbers are in! This past school year, REF awarded $86,087.99 in funding, supporting 33 grants across our 6 Riverview schools.

🍎 These dollars aren’t just numbers - they’re robotics kits, literacy programs, science equipment, art supplies, and hands‑on learning experiences that teachers couldn’t offer without your support.

REF is busy planning an unforgettable night in support of our students! Join us Saturday, February 20, 2027 at Sparkman Cellars in Woodinville for REF Night Out, an evening of bids, bites, and making a BIG impact on education.

Last year, our incredible community helped us raise $100,000 for students. ❤️ Let’s do it again - and make an even bigger impact together!

August brought another round of REF grants that support learning, connection, and access across Riverview!

🔊 Audiobooks for All
REF is funding five Yoto Mini players and 49 audiobook cards to expand access to literature for elementary students. These tools help young readers engage with stories in new and creative ways.

🌲 River Ranch Trip for the CLIP Program
High school CLIP students will participate in a team‑building day at Camp River Ranch, including structured challenges and low‑ropes activities designed to strengthen trust, communication, and collaboration.

🧩 CV Sensory Room Renewal
Cherry Valley’s sensory room is getting a major refresh with OT‑approved equipment - crash pads, therapy balls, balance tools, tactile resources, and more, all designed to support sensory regulation and student well‑being.

🏕️ 5th Grade Outdoor Education
REF is helping offset the cost of 5th grade outdoor camp for all three elementary schools, ensuring every student can participate in this memorable camp experience.

🍎 We hope everyone had a great first week back at school! REF helped welcome staff from all six RSD schools with apple cake pops delivered by REF President Chrissy Middleton.

A big thanks to Amy McHenry of BaeBae Cakes for her talented creations.

Last school year, REF awarded grants to 27 teachers across the district; we can’t wait to keep the grantmaking going. Here’s to another year of supporting big ideas in Riverview classrooms. 💡

🍎 Welcome Back, Riverview!

A new school year means new opportunities to support our teachers and students.

REF’s mission is simple: to fund programs, tools, and experiences that help RSD students thrive. Each year, REF helps bring big ideas to life - from hands‑on science tools and literacy programs to music, technology, and classroom enhancements that wouldn’t be possible through traditional funding alone.

We invest in projects that spark curiosity, strengthen academics, and create meaningful learning opportunities from Kindergarten through high school.

⚡As we close out our last day of school, we’re celebrating our innovative teachers and another example of REF grants sparking hands-on learning!⚡

Sixth graders in Mr. McFarland’s Digital Design class at Tolt Middle School dove into a new electricity unit using Snap Circuit kits. Students built real working projects - FM radios, remote‑controlled cars, and more, while exploring concepts like motors, wiring, voltage, and power.

“The students really enjoyed the hands‑on nature of the unit and getting to experiment and invent with electricity in a way that was safe. I was happy with how quickly they gained the courage to try their own ideas and put their learning into practice. We are so fortunate to have the support of REF in this district,” said Erik McFarland.
