Students will enjoy the tactile experience of creating artwork from natural clay and finishing it with beautiful glazes. We will use hand building techniques using slabs, coils, sculpting tools, as well as some fun glazing and decorating methods.

Learn the basics of acrylic painting such as brush techniques, mixing colors, composition theory, different art styles and much more. We'll begin with landscapes, then move on to animals and still-life. Students are encouraged to bring their own photos/source material of covered subjects. No experience necessary.

We are building a community of adult painters of all levels to come together, learn and create! Continuing students work independently in a supportive environment with instructor demonstrations and critiques upon request.

NEW this fall!! Sign up today for our Mixed Media Sculpture class for ages 9-15. In this class, students will explore the elements and principles of design, with an emphasis on form. Students will utilize recycled and found objects to make mixed media sculptures, including tea light lanterns, cardboard stained glass, and papier-mâché puppets.

Always wanted to give the pottery wheel a try? Sign up today for our upcoming Wheel Test Drive Workshop!

Come take a wheel for a spin and learn the basics of making a small cylinder or bowl on the pottery wheel. This 90 minute class will include a demonstration, then time to make your own pottery pieces with your teacher's supervision. Students will keep their favorite 2 pieces and we will fire and glaze your work for you to pick up two weeks after the class.

We are beyond excited to offer a new workshop in Sumi Ink on Saturday, October 10th. Sign up at https://www.hisawyer.com/northwest-art-center/schedules/activity-set/1988156

Create a nuanced black-and-white floral, sea life, bird, or animal image using Clayboard & Sumi Ink! Students will texturize their panel followed by a value study as they transfer their image using a razor tool onto the clayboard.

This technique is appropriate for both beginner and experienced artists. No drawing skills are required, just an observant eye! All equipment and supplies are provided. Students will go home with their own painting, as well as a new medium to explore on their own.

Sign your kids up today for our Let's Get Creative class! Drawing, painting, sculpting clay and more! This is the perfect foundation class for the little artist. Children will improve fine motor skills and tap into their creative side while having fun learning technique and exploring basic elements and principles of art.
