Carolina Preparatory Academy

Carolina Prep middle school students visited The Makery in Durham this week.

They put their engineering skills to the test, taking on the role of civil engineers. Students participated in a bridge-building challenge that required creativity, collaboration, and strategic thinking.

The excitement peaked when it was time to test each bridge and see how well their designs performed! While some bridges held strong and others revealed opportunities for improvement, every team gained valuable experience in perseverance, innovation, and teamwork.

After a morning of designing and building, students enjoyed lunch together at Boxyard RTP before heading back to school.

A fantastic day of STEM learning, creative problem-solving, and community building!

A very special thank you to the MSR & Carolina Prep community for making our Intercultural Picnic so memorable!

It was a wonderful evening of coming together to celebrate our diverse cultures, and enjoy international food, henna, Dabke, calligraphy, games, meaningful connections and so much more.

Project Week in Boston took students out of the classroom and out of their comfort zone to foster collaboration and stretch their academic, social and leadership skills.

Students explored the Freedom Trail, took part in the Boston Tea Party, watched a Broadway Play, volunteered with Cradles to Crayons, toured Fenway Park, MIT and Harvard Square and visited a host of special museums.

Our local project week was a one-of-a-kind journey designed to inspire curiosity, creativity, and connection with the world around us.

Each day brought a new adventure—from a tiger sanctuary to goat yoga, from the vibrant life on display at our local botanical gardens to museum and animal education sessions and a visit to a bird sanctuary, this week was all about balance—mind, body, and heart—blending wellness with discovery, and leaving students refreshed, inspired, and full of wonder!

On January 19th, students in grades 6–12 came together to serve our community in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his powerful commitment to service.

Students participated in one of four projects:

• Lasagna Love — preparing meals to share with families in need.

• Project Linus — creating handmade blankets to bring comfort to children facing challenges.

• Octopus for a Preemie — making crochet octopus “comfort toys” for premature babies in NICU.

• STEAM Building Updates — refreshing and updating bulletin boards to brighten our learning spaces

We are proud of our students for showing compassion, teamwork, and leadership as they put service into action. Thank you for helping us make a difference!
