is working on this in North Carolina! We’ve had hours and hours of meetings with the state Dept. of Insurance and are also raising awareness with state legislators. It’s the work we do for licensed child care providers and our privilege! We’ve learned a LOT about this topic over the last year and are exploring potential solutions as a result. Stay tuned!
The childcare insurance crisis continues to get media attention albeit at a much slower pace than the aftermath of this ongoing epidemic.
I’ve had 4 clients close locations in the last 60 days, but with my close connections to the space, I know of so many others all over the U.S.!! I’m really concerned about the stability of ECE right now. 🥺
Hang in there friends! I’m not sure where this article will take us, but I’m exploring every opportunity to shed light on an issue we can’t rescue ourselves from. 🫶🏽

“Without increased subsidy funding, child care will continue to become less accessible and more expensive, said Dan Rockaway, president of the NC Licensed Child Care Association and CEO of Sounds and Colors, which has four child care centers in Wake and Orange counties.
“‘It’s what keeps parents in the workforce and classrooms open,’ Rockaway said. ‘But to truly work, subsidy rates also need to be better aligned with the actual cost of providing high-quality care, otherwise the gap continues to grow and access remains out of reach for too many families.’”

After hearing from our sources in Washington, D.C., we have confirmed with the state (DCDEE and Governor’s office) that federal subsidy funding for December services arrived in NC this morning; therefore, there should be not be much of a delay in getting it out to providers. We are grateful for the governor and his administration, who addressed this matter with urgency and advocated fiercely to our congressional delegation to try to prevent reimbursement delays that would harm working families and providers.
