This Memorial Day, we pause to honor and remember the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.

At StepUp Durham, we are grateful for the opportunity to serve veterans as they build sustainable careers and thrive in civilian life. Today, we hold space for the sacrifices made, the lives lost, and the families who continue to carry that sacrifice every day.

We remember with gratitude.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and many of our participants come to us facing mental health challenges that can impact stability, employment, and overall well-being. Through a holistic approach, we connect participants with the resources, support, and community care they need to thrive — and Darkness Rising Project Nonprofit is an invaluable partner in making that possible.

Thank you to Loop Creative for spotlighting Darkness Rising Project and helping amplify the impactful work they continue to do in our community through culturally responsive mental health advocacy, healing, and connection.

Check out their annual Mental Health Block Party on Saturday, May 23rd — a celebration of culture, wellness, connection, and community healing.

・・・
May is , a time to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and remind one another that caring for our mental wellbeing is just as important as caring for our physical health. Everyone experiences hard seasons, and reaching out for support is a sign of strength, not failure. When we talk openly about mental health, we make it easier for others to do the same.
This month, consider supporting local like who provide free, culturally competent mental health resources designed to uplift and empower marginalized communities. Their work helps ensure that care is accessible, affirming, and rooted in community.
Let’s continue building a culture where understanding, compassion, and support are the norm — not the exception.
