Our Black History Museum on Friday is an integral part of IDYL’s heritage here! Our scholars dressed up as black history figures and presented themselves to an audience of parents, friends, and loved ones!

Henrietta Lacks was an African-American woman, whose cancer cells are the source of the HeLa cell line, the first immortalized human cell line. The HeLa cell line is still one of the most important cell lines in medical research today!

Rosa Parks is famous for launching the Montgomery Bus Boycott when she refused to give up her seat and move to the back of the bus for a White passenger. However, Claudette Colvin was just 15 years old when she refused to give up her seat for a White passenger, nine months before Parks did the same thing. The schoolgirl was handcuffed, arrested and thrown in jail.
