Our summer intern Meghan went behind the scenes with the WINDOWS TO THE WILD crew to meet Jenna Pitoscia, who started the Kittery Morning Swim Club, and find out why this group of people keeps showing up for an early morning swim when some of us are still in bed.

The full story is coming later this fall. For now, enjoy this sneak peek featuring some very happy dogs, tempting mini muffins and Doug Ridley filling in as our in-water cameraman. We handed him a GoPro and sent him in—stay tuned to see what he captured!

A New Hampshire story is reaching a national audience! Congratulations to our friends behind MONADNOCK: THE MOUNTAIN THAT STANDS ALONE, which will air nationwide on PBS WORLD Channel this Sunday and Tuesday.

It’s wonderful to see this film about Mount Monadnock—and the people who have worked to protect it—travel from New Hampshire to public media viewers across the country. This is what PBS does so well: carrying local stories far beyond the places where they began. Check your local listings at worldchannel.org.

Have you ever wondered why there’s a ship on the New Hampshire state flag? It’s the USS Raleigh, a 32-gun warship built on Badger’s Island, now part of Kittery, Maine. In 1777, it became the first American naval vessel to carry the American flag into battle.

The ship reflects New Hampshire’s long history as a center of shipbuilding. When the state redesigned its seal in 1931, the ship depicted on it was officially designated as the USS Raleigh. It remains on our state seal and flag today.
