Maybe you think that kindergarten is a year away and you’ve got time. But you’d be wrong 😬

Many families are shocked to find out how early these processes begin. If you are thinking about private schools- that begins now. In September.

For folks interested in magnets and charters- October is when things will begin for you.

Save this and send to a friend so we can all be prepared together ❤️

Some of my best advice to you is how to avoid this school choice trap.

Especially in today’s day and age, I know it can be hard to stay grounded and block out all the noise and distractions. But I promise you it’s worth it ❤️

Every year, I have families contact me in November who say, “I had no idea it started this early.” So let’s fix that now 👇

These are the three things that catch parents off guard in private school admissions:

The timeline

What schools are really evaluating

And the testing piece nobody explains in time

For families who are applying to private schools, I am there along the whole process for you. Helping you prepare for applications, tours, student visits, and more. My consultation calendar is filling up fast for the fall, so if you’re interested in getting support, reach out today.

There are quite a few project-based learning schools throughout the Triangle and I get a lot of questions about the method of education.

So let’s dive in a bit today to learn more about what true project based learning looks like, versus projects in a classroom.

If you are considering a PBL school for your child, pay special attention to slide number 8 with the questions worth asking when you are taking a tour.

And don’t forget, I have interviewed teachers on Education Breakdown Podcast who specialize in PBL- check out episodes numbers 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10 to learn more!

❓Now what questions do you have a ? Drop them in the comments and I’ll answer!

I’m still waiting on the first day of fall but the private school application timeline is already rolling!

If you are thinking about applying to a private school for next year, now is the time to get started. Here are a couple important things for you to remember:

🏫 each private school has their own timeline in terms of the date that their application portal opens and what requirements are part of the application process. It’s important for you to keep track of each individual school that you are interested.

🗓️ not every private school has their application portal open just yet, but many have already released their open house dates, information session dates, and tour dates. So if there are schools on your interest list, go ahead and check out their website and mark your calendar for important dates.

🤝 if you could use some support during this process, please reach out. Whether that’s helping you identify the private schools that will be the best fit for you and your family, preparing you for the application process, or anything in between. you know where to find me 😊

The kids are officially back in school! But starting a new school year, whether that is at the same school you were at last year, starting kindergarten, or switching schools for middle school or high school… The first week (or let’s be honest, the first couple of weeks), are an adjustment. For everyone.

Whether you are battling morning meltdowns and refusal to go to school, afternoon meltdowns from a long day at school, trouble getting to sleep at night… You are not alone. Anytime children go through a major life change, such as starting school, it is understandable for things to be a little rocky at first.

If you are concerned about your child and their transition into school thus far, be sure you reach out to teachers early on to see what they are experiencing in the classroom to help give you a more holistic perspective. From there, teacher or school meetings can be helpful to get everyone on the same page and think through strategies if that is needed.

But for most children, these first couple of weeks take a little time for everyone to settle in, and you should see things level out after that.

Sending you patience, perspective, and lots of positive vibes in the week ahead. ❤️
