Due to the early afternoon arrival of winter weather tomorrow and to ensure the safety of all students and staff, Durham Public Schools will be closed tomorrow, Friday, January 10. Friday will be an optional remote workday. Staff are asked to confirm plans to work remotely, take leave, or make alternate arrangements to make up time with their supervisor. Essential personnel should report to work as directed by their supervisor. All DPS facilities will be closed through the weekend and all district activities are canceled.

Our new Principal, Brandon Hodges, was announced at the special call board meeting and will be on board for the second semester. Stay tuned for meet-and-greet sessions for our families and community.

Good Evening Southern Family. This is Ms. Campbell with your weekly update.
There are 10 school days before the Winter Break. Students are encouraged to speak to teachers about their grades and turn in any missing assignments. All missing and late assignments must be turned in by January 8th. Exams begins January 13th -17th. The exam schedule can be found on the Southern's Website.
EOC classes will finish taking Benchmarks Monday and Tuesday. Please encourage your Math I, Math III, English II or Biology student to take their benchmark if they have not already done so.
The Southern PTSA would like to invite all parents, teachers and students to participate in the enrollment drive before Winter break. Anyone who signs up and pays thier $15 dues by Dec. 16th will be entered into a drawing to win a $25 gift card. We will be selecting 2 winners on December 17th. Anyone in your family can join and be entered the drawing. Sign up information is posted on our school website. The PTSA would like Thank you all for your participation to Southerns' Teachers and Students.

February 19, 2025. If you would like your student to receive a
Dental Exam, Cleanings X-Rays, Fluoride Treatment, or Sealants
Please visit the Southern Website, look for the dental information, scan the QR code and fill out the permission form to book an appointment.
Will will continue to use the Transportation Bus Rotation Schedule. It can be found on the Southern Website and the District website.

Congratulations to our Men's Soccer Program for winning back-to-back conference championships, 1st to make final 8 appearances in two consecutive years, and 1st to the Final 4. We are disappointed that their season has ended, but we are blessed that they made history at SSES.💪🏾‼️💪🏾

CALLING ALL SENIORS CLASS OF 2025
Seniors, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) opens on December 1st!
Colleges require the FAFSA in order to be considered for financial aid! You must also complete the FAFSA to be considered for federal and state aid! Every student planning to attend a 2 or 4 year school should complete the FAFSA if eligible.
Next Tuesday, November 19th, we will have a FAFSA Preparation Night in the Media Center from 5:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.. This is to prepare students and parents and get them ready for the FAFSA.
Food will be provided! Please bring a computer if you plan to attend.

Good evening, Parents, Students, and Staff. This is Alaina Burr calling from Southern School of Energy and Sustainability with this week’s Update:
-Remember that November 11th is a holiday in honor of Veterans day. There will be no school for students or teachers.
-Eleventh graders will be asked to take a survey to tell us how they feel about attending Durham Public Schools. It's called a Climate Survey and we administer it every year. We want to know what makes them feel good or proud to be a DPS student, and if there are things we need to improve so that they can feel good about learning in DPS. We would appreciate your consent using the Google form that you should have received via email. It will be administered between Thursday, November 14 and Friday January 31. Please call the school if you have questions.
-There is a PTSA Zoom meeting at 6pm on Tuesday to discuss parent input for hiring a New Principal. The link can be found on the SSES website.
-Students will begin to receive consequences for tardiness. Students who are not in class by 9:15am and do not have a bus pass are tardy. After 3 tardies, students will begin to receive consequences.
-We’re excited to invite you to our Hispanic Heritage Celebration on Thursday, November 14th, from 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM at Southern High School. This event is a fantastic opportunity for our community to come together, celebrate Hispanic culture, and enjoy delicious food, music, and dance! There will be Live Music from La Ke Buena 1310 AM!,Traditional Dance Performances and Free Food for everyone to enjoy. This celebration promises to be a wonderful cultural experience, and we’d love for you to spread the word to your students. Young ladies who have participated in a 15 year celebration are asked to come and wear their 15 dress.
-November is National Career Development Month the theme for 2024 is CREATING MY CAREER PATH: EMBRACING CHANGE IN MY JOURNEY
