Program update: Due to a scheduling conflict, local speaker Dr. Bohorquez will no longer be able to present at this meeting. We are pleased to share that Dr. Laura Rupprecht (UNC Chapel Hill) will be presenting in his place, featuring new work on neuropods and food reward.
We look forward to seeing Dr. Rupprecht and the rest of our local speakers at our annual conference this Friday!

We are thrilled to welcome our keynote speaker, Dr. Lee A. Shapiro!
Currently a professor in the Department of Neuroscience and Experimental Therapeutics at the Texas A&M University College of Medicine, Dr. Shapiro is a leading voice in understanding the complex intersection of the brain and the immune system. With over 60 invited lectures globally—including the prestigious Glenn Hatton Memorial Lecture, his work is at the forefront of the neurosciences.
Dr. Shapiro will discuss the glia/neuron/immune axis in the role of Traumatic Brain Injury syndromes. These include depression, cognitive impairment, epilepsy, alcohol seeking behavior, and the development of Alzheimer’s disease. From investigating the role of astrocytes, microglia, and peripheral immune cells, to exploring how the gut-brain axis impacts recovery, his lab is uncovering the mechanisms that could lead to the next generation of post-traumatic therapies.
Beyond the bench, Dr. Shapiro is a dedicated mentor and editor for top-tier journals like the Journal of Neuroinflammation and Brain Structure and Function.
Please join us on Friday, April 10th at our annual conference to hear about these exciting breakthroughs. Late registration closes April 9th!
