Recycling collection for unincorporated residents, four convenience sites, and litter control.
Durham County Recycles is part of Durham County's Department of General Services Solid Waste Division. We provide roadside recycling collection for unincorporated residents and operate four convenience sites for RESIDENTIAL waste disposal and recycling. We also enforce litter regulations and offer education and outreach assistance to schools, community groups, and other business that would like to set up a waste reduction program.

Our Northern and Parkwood Convenience Sites will open at 10:30am tomorrow. Tuesday's recycling collection will begin at 8:30am, road conditions permitting. Monday's recycling has been rescheduled for Wednesday.
Due to the potential for hazardous travel conditions from Winter Storm Gianna, Durham County Government will delay opening non-essential offices on Tuesday, February 3, 2026. All County offices will open at 10:30 a.m.
All Durham County Library locations will open at 11:30 a.m.

Our Convenience Sites will be closed on Monday 2/2/26. The recycling collection scheduled for Monday has been rescheduled for Wednesday 2/6/26.
Due to the continuing winter weather conditions affecting our area, all Durham County Government non-essential offices will remain closed on Monday, February 2.
This closure includes Durham County Library locations, Durham County Convenience Sites, and suspension of roadside recycling collection.

1/31/26 Update: Our Parkwood and Northern Convenience Sites are open today until 12noon (or until Mother Nature shuts us down). The Redwood Site is still closed due to the ice covering the back side and hill leading to the drop off area.

1/30/26 Update: Our Redwood Site remains closed, but the Parkwood and Northern Sites are open today from 7am-6pm. The back corner of the Redwood Site is very shaded and the ice has not melted enough to make it safe for visitors and our vendors.

In anticipation of winter weather conditions impacting Central North Carolina, the Electronics Recycling Drop Off event scheduled for Saturday, January 31, 2026, has been rescheduled to Saturday, February 21.

*** Due to Saturday's weather prediction, our e-waste event that was scheduled for 1/31/26 at the Northern Convenience Site has been rescheduled to 2/21/26. ***
1/29/26 Update: Our Redwood Convenience Site remains closed. The Parkwood and Northern Sites are open today from 7am-6pm. Thursdays curbside recycling is on schedule for today. GFL attempted to collect Monday's route yesterday, but was unable to finish due to hazardous road conditions. They will make a 2nd attempt today for those that were missed, but only where conditions have improved.
1/28/26 Update: Our Parkwood and Northern Sites are reopening today at 10:30am. Both sites will be open until 6pm. Our Redwood Site remains closed due to hazardous conditions. Monday's recycling is being picked up today.

Monday 1/26/26 Update: Our Convenience Sites will be closed and recycling for unincorporated residents has been cancelled. Road conditions must improve for recycling to resume, and it's too early to know exactly how that will play out. We will update you as soon as we know more.
All Durham County Government non-essential operations and offices will be closed on Monday, January 26, 2026, due to the continuing winter weather conditions affecting Central North Carolina. This closure includes all Durham County Library branches, all County Convenience Sites, and suspension of roadside recycling collection.
The Board of County Commissioners’ meeting scheduled for Monday, January 26, will be cancelled. The agenda items will be moved to their Work Session to be held on Monday, February 2.
