North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics is the nation’s first public residential high school specializing in science, technology, engineering, and math. We challenge talented high school juniors and seniors from across North Carolina through a residential program on our historic campus in Durham and western campus in Morganton, an extensive online program, and summer offerings on our campuses and across the state. NCSSM is committed to giving back to our communities through the time, talents, and resources of our world-class educators, dedicated staff, and students. Founded in 1980, NCSSM has become the model for specialized schools around the globe. Our 15,000+ alumni include local and global leaders in medicine, technology, commerce, education, and the arts. NCSSM Across NC — This summer’s INSPIRE program brought students to mentorships, enrichment activities, and workshops across Western North Carolina. Students participated in this one-week summer residential program, operating out of NCSSM-Morganton, which aims to introduce academically talented participants from a wide range of backgrounds to STEM research.

Congratulations to Society for Science President & CEO and Executive Publisher of Science News Magazine Maya Ajmera on being named to the list!

The annual list spotlights women across four categories—lifestyle, impact, innovation and investment—whose leadership has made a lasting impact. Maya Ajmera was selected for the Innovation category. "Since becoming president and CEO of Society for Science in 2014," writes Forbes / ForbesWomen, "she secured a $100 million, 10-year sponsorship for the Science Talent Search, launched an $11 million STEM outreach initiative to expand opportunities for underserved students and helped grow Science News, of which Ajmera is executive publisher, into a media enterprise reaching more than 23 million readers."

Congratulations to RayShaun Williams ‘23 for serving as a co-host of the “Astronaut Strategies for College Students” talk with Christina Koch ‘97 at NC State University last week. Their insightful conversation encouraged students to believe in themselves, follow their personal and professional paths unapologetically, and build community along the way. Christina provided perspective on her journey to the stars and her education, even shouting out her NCSSM math instructor Helen Compton for seeing her potential and helping her develop self-confidence. We are so proud of these two Unicorns and grateful for the wisdom they shared with us all.
