Carl Jung is best known as one of history's most influential psychologists, but fewer people know he also described a remarkable near-death experience following a heart attack in 1944.

In a letter to a correspondent, Jung wrote:
"What happens after death is so unspeakably glorious that our imagination and our feelings do not suffice to form even an approximate conception of it. The dissolution of our time-bound form in eternity brings no loss of meaning."

Jung’s near-death experience significantly influenced his views on death and the idea that meaning persists beyond our earthly existence. His story is one of the most impactful NDE accounts from a renowned psychologist.

A Specail Tribute to PMH ATWATER on THE PSYCHIC & THE DOC

PMH ATWATER was a giant in the filed of NDE Research. She was the first female NDE Researcher and her insights and discoveries broadened our understanding of life beyond the physical. Her story and life are legendary, but in this interview you will experience her genius, humanity and humor.

Pioneering near-death experiencer researcher and author PMH Atwater last week died at the age of 88.

During her distinguished career, she authored over 20 books, including The Big Book of Near-Death Experiences; Near-Death Experiences: The Rest of the Story; and The Forever Angels: Near-Death Experiences in Childhood and Their Lifelong Impact. Her writings combine statistical analysis, personal interviews, and experiential insights, providing a comprehensive view of NDE phenomena and their long-term effects on individuals. P.M.H. has been deeply involved in IANDS since it’s founding and has spoken at many IANDS conferences.

"Her personality filled the room; we laughed, we cried, and we were lost in wonder at her research and the depth of heart she put into every thought and conclusion. But the true magic was how she made me and each of her listeners feel welcomed and embraced as if we had always been her friend," said IANDS President Evan Mecham.

The world knew her as Phyllis Marie, a young woman from Twin Falls, Idaho, a Sunday School teacher, a respected reporter and writer, a mother of three children. And, as a survivor of three separate near-death experiences in a span of three months, these ineffable experiences and P.M.H.’s determination to understand what she had experienced would reshape her life and influence people around the world.

She went on to earn a Humanities Doctorate from the College of Spiritual and Psychic Studies in Montreal, Canada, and an honorary PhD. in Therapeutic Counseling. Her research is extensive and can be reviewed in the over 20 books she wrote between 1977 and 2026.

Never forgetting IANDS, P.M.H. endowed the organization with the royalties from her book, The Big Book of Near-Death Experiences. Further, days before her death, she arranged for her research to be turned over to IANDS to be maintained for future researchers and the benefit of humanity.

"Thank you, dear friend, for your gifts and constant thoughts," Mecham said. "We will miss you until we meet again."
