We affect sustainable change through customized, innovative solutions that are research-based and proven to be the most effective strategies to prevent and respond to incivility, harassment, violence and discrimination. In our partnership, Soteria Solutions is the catalyst with our tailored solutions igniting change and our clients carrying the torch to maintain an environment of safety and respect for all. Our approach is unique in that our solutions are developed and implemented to leverage an organization’s strengths. We embrace the importance of customization to understand and leverage our client’s unique protective factors, as such factors are essential to achieving lasting impact. We enable our clients to offer safe and respectful learning, working or living environments by activating bystanders and improving organizational frameworks that are essential to achieve integral strategic shifts. Examples of organizational frameworks include goals, strategic plans, company values, policies, reporting mechanisms, job descriptions, cultural norms, performance reviews and incentive plans. Lately, I’ve been sitting in rage and fatigue with the harrowing events unfolding worldwide. It has sparked (yet again) public outrage and renewed demands for accountability, safety, and 𝙚𝙢𝙥𝙖𝙩𝙝𝙮 for the basic humanity of people.

As professionals in campus-based prevention, we know the work to end sexual violence has never paused. Neither has the beauty and terror of our world, nor the social landscapes and academic environments within which young people live and learn. Our advocacy and prevention efforts cannot stagnate while everything else races ahead.

For the past several months, I have led the design and development of Bringing in the Bystander® College Version 4 alongside an incredible team of subject matter experts, researchers, and advocates at Soteria Solutions

My focus has been anchored on young people themselves — centering what they are going through, what they need, and what they aren’t getting. Research only tells us part of the story. In an age of increasing disconnectedness and disembodiment, we have to search for the human element and ask the hard questions: 𝙄𝙨 𝙚𝙢𝙥𝙖𝙩𝙝𝙮 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚 𝙩𝙤 𝙗𝙚𝙜𝙞𝙣 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝? 𝘼𝙣𝙙 𝙞𝙛 𝙞𝙩 𝙞𝙨, 𝙬𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙝𝙖𝙥𝙥𝙚𝙣𝙨 𝙩𝙤 𝙞𝙩? To build genuine agency, we must address what holds students back in the ambiguous, complicated interactions that unfold in everyday, familiar environments.

C.A.R.E.® is a philosophical shift toward a more flexible, context-informed roadmap. It is designed to help students evaluate their relationships, safety, strengths, and environments so they can take action that feels authentic, accessible, and sustainable enough to 𝙠𝙚𝙚𝙥 𝙖𝙩 𝙞𝙩.

Version 4 Train-the-Trainer Coming up in October… Is it for YOU?

This upcoming workshop is designed for future facilitators of the newest V4 of BITB who want to bring the updated program to their campus and organization.

DATES: October 6–7, 2026
TIMES: 1-4:30 PM ET both days

-Are a current BITB coordinator or facilitator at an organization upgrading to the Version 4;
-Are part of a new or renewed licensed organization and will be facilitating BITB V4 trainings;

“The culture in your workplace isn't defined by your values statement. It's defined by whether employees trust you as a leader.

New research across 18 countries (https://bit.ly/4ieGdLU) found that trust in leadership (not policies alone) is what makes employees feel psychologically safe to speak up, ask questions, report concerns/harm, and admit mistakes.

Psychological safety is created and sustained by consistently showing up through your actions. When leaders acknowledge what needs to change in the spaces we move through (the boardroom, staff meetings, conferences, and even our Zoom chats), the everyday employee experience improves. Trust builds when leaders consistently model respect, accountability, and integrity. Employees decide whether they feel safe speaking up based on what leaders do and not just what they say.

Why does this matter?

When employees trust their leaders, they're more likely to raise concerns early, address inappropriate behavior, and contribute to a workplace where problems are identified before they escalate. Management feels more empowered to take care of their teams instead of focusing only on "producing" and "meeting deadlines." Establishing this precedent is a critical component of preventing workplace harassment and fostering a culture of respect.

Last week, Soteria Solutions had the privilege of partnering with the South Carolina National Guard to deliver an in-person Bringing in the Bystander® (BITB) Military Train-the-Trainer.

A sincere thank you to the South Carolina National Guard-IPPW and Calvin Glover for their commitment to prevention and for creating such an engaged learning environment. Their thoughtful planning and enthusiastic participation helped make this training a tremendous success.
