Spectra-Care Afterschool Program

Spectra-Care Afterschool Program Spectra-Care provides student-centered, after school academic and social enrichment solutions for middle schoolers living with autism--and their allies.

Founded in 2015 by Vickie L. Suggs, Ph.D. and Angela M. Landers, MBA, Spectra-Care provides after school care for middle-schoolers living with autism spectrum disorder. Our program includes 1) Homework assistance and Tutoring; 2) Identity Development and Social Development Skills; and 3) Peer Exchange opportunities. Our intended outcomes center on enrichment-based academic and self-esteem programming. Spectra-Care strives to provide a safe, nurturing, and accepting space in which participants of the program are afforded the ability to freely express. Spectra-Care targets middle school adolescents who are not yet ready or able to remain at home alone at the conclusion of the school day. Spectra-care engages students in fun activities that build on what is learned during the school day to extend the knowledge they already have. Our goal is to provide affordable, convenient, and nurturing academic enrichment activities that support the classroom learning outcomes. Spectra-Care is poised to serve the needs of autistic students in Durham, Wake and Orange Counties and seeks to grow throughout the Triangle area and beyond. We seek to create an educational and social space in which parents, families and their allies can guarantee the continued development of this very special student population.
