A quick highlight reel from my semester abroad so far. Visiting new countries, exploring new cities, and experiencing different cultures has been an amazing part of studying in Barcelona!
Short Study Tour: SamsĆø, Denmark š©š°
One of my favorite parts of studying abroad with DIS is the emphasis on experiential learning.
Each student takes a Core Course (mine is Sustainable Development in Northern Europe) that travels together twice during the semester: a 3-day short study tour near Copenhagen and a 6-day long study tour somewhere else in Europe.
For our short study tour, my class visited SamsĆø, a small island in central Denmark that is internationally known for its transition to renewable energy. During our academic visits, we learned how the island became a self-sufficient clean energy community and explored the differences between small-scale local farming and large-scale agriculture focused on exports.
Unfortunately, on the second day of the trip our bus got snowed in, which meant we had to cancel some plans (including climbing a wind turbine š). But we made the most of it with a snowy walk to the beach and time bonding together at our hostel.
Next up: our long study tour! My class will be traveling to Stockholm to compare sustainability initiatives in another Nordic city.
Enjoy this recap of SamsĆøāand stay tuned tomorrow for my final takeover post before I head to Sweden!šøšŖ

Thank you all for following me around this week! Iād like to you send off with my favorite part of Kyrgyzstan: itās nature. Kyrgyzstan is known as the āSwitzerland of Central Asiaā because of its snow-capped mountains, glaciers, and pristine lakes. I have loved hiking around Kyrgyzstan, and I was pleasantly surprised by how vast and beautiful this country is. I canāt wait to someday return and continue to explore this country.

Outside of studying and living in Bologna, our program has brought us to a bunch of other amazing parts of Italy! This is not an exhaustive list by any means, but some of our destinations included Carpi, Ferrara, Modena, and Ravenna. In my own time, I was lucky enough to visit the Lake Como region, and spend a few hours in Milan!

Day in my life in Athens:
1. I wake up and eat breakfast. I usually either enjoy it on my cute balcony or go to a cafe near school to eat with my friends.
2. Then my roommates and I take the bus to our school building. In Athens you can get a month long student pass that works for all the forms of public transport for around ā¬13!
3. Then we have our first class, Ancient Athenian Democracy taught by our UNH professor.
4. We then eat lunch provided by the school. We get to eat at a restaurant nearby where all of the food is homemade by a very sweet chef named Adonis. Today I had pastitsio and potatoes, and we always start lunch with steamed veggies and bread.
5. My roommates and I will then go to a cafe or back to our apartment to work on homework for a little while in between classes.
6. Then we hopped back on the bus to go to our second class, Contemporary Greek Culture. Today we had a field trip to the Parliament where we learned about the Greek political system and the Greek Revolution.
7. Always have to make time to say hello to the kitties!
8. After our second class Iāll either go home and make dinner or go out with my friends. Today we went out for souvlaki and it was only ā¬3 a piece!
9. Then itās time to go home, finish homework, and chill out before bed!
