Join DUSON in congratulating our second cohort of Leading to Equitable Access to Health Professions (LEAHP) on successful completion of the program. DUSON Health Equity Academy (HEA II) and the MSN program partnered with North Carolina Central to present the weeklong summer immersion program that ran from June 6 until June 10, welcoming 5 current BSN students from North Carolina Central University.
During this experience, scholars worked with DUSON faculty, advisors, staff, and students to develop an understanding of advanced practice nursing and support for successful admission to a graduate nursing program. LEAHP assisted students in designing a professional development plan that will assist them in achieving successful admission into an Advanced Practice nursing program. Some activities included:
• Seminars and activities which highlight health disparities and health access.
• Personal and professional development
• Simulated Nurse Practitioner experiences

On June 16th 2021 the House voted, 415-14 to make Juneteenth a national federal holiday. President Biden signed the bill into law on June 17, 2021. Also known as Freedom Day, June 19 marks the date in 1865, when more than 250,000 enslaved African Americans learned about their freedom by executive proclamation more than two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation. President Lincoln’s Executive Order took effect January 1, 1863, Texas being the furthest slave owning state within the confederacy received the message when the Union Army arrived. We reflect on and honor this date as the official end of chattel slavery in the US.
