Rogers-Herr Middle School

We are a public magnet school, offering 6th-8th grade, one of two DPS middle schools operating on a

Rogers-Herr operates on a year-round schedule which divides the year into 9-week quarters separated by 3-week intersession breaks. School starts in mid-July and ends in early June, with a 5-week summer break. The year-round calendar offers many advantages:
Students retain their learning better over the shorter summer break
3-week-long intersession breaks allow teachers and students to rest, reflect and return refreshed
Family vacation time can be used more creatively
The curriculum can incorporate seasonal learning
DPS aligns calendars so families with children in both year-round and traditional schools have overlapping breaks
All DPS year-round schools are on the same calendar.

Happy National Trail Mix Day!

Our wonderful RHMS PTA did it again!

Today, they treated our staff to an assortment of nuts in celebration of National Trail Mix Day, a perfect little pick-me-up to keep us going!

We are so thankful for a PTA that continues to find thoughtful and creative ways to show our staff just how much they are appreciated.

Congratulations to Rogers-Herr Middle School seventh grader Charlie Torrione on an incredible showing at the 2026 National Junior Championships in West Virginia this summer!

Charlie brought home GOLD in the Boys’ C 3-Meter Springboard competition, earning the title of National Champion! He also earned a silver medal in the 1-Meter Springboard and placed fourth in Platform.

This isn’t Charlie’s first time at the top—he also earned first place in the Boys’ 3-Meter competition at the 2024 National Championships.

Way to represent Rogers-Herr and Durham Public Schools on the national stage, Charlie!
