Summah CSA week 2, here we go! Carrots, our first harvest of many for summer squash, a special garlic scape feature and tons of good greens and herbs. Sloss Fellow Christina Ferrari wrote this week’s newsletter, with an old photo proving that her joy for all things green and growing started way before her time at the farm 🌻

Ok we’re gushing!!! 11 of our amazing students graduated this weekend, with Bachelor’s degrees, Masters and PhDs, and we’re OVERWHELMINGLY PROUD! This farm simply would not exist without the grit and love from our crew, and we’re going to miss this group of grads so very much. We celebrated with a ceremony on the farm and some tasty treats cheffed up by none other than graduating MBA Harini Ilamurugu!

Over the last month, we also watched three of our graduates present their thesis projects. Lauren, our student field education manager, graduated from the Graduate Liberal Studies Program and studied the role of women and the political economy of care during the West Virginia Mine Wars. Anna Clauer, 2025 soil fertility fellow, led a participatory study on air quality and heat levels in Durham. Finally, field crew member and 2026 soil fertility fellow Abby Walden presented their thesis on fifteen years of soil regeneration at DCF and looked into the levels of soil microbial activity and nitrogen availability in our soils.

Congrats to all of our 2026 graduates! Our love for you runs deep, and we can’t wait to see what you do next.
