Some people have asked why some of the top-performing school programs consult with me, since on the surface, they don’t seem to have many problems. Many of these programs are seeing a higher percentage of students suffering from chronic anxiety, clinical depression, and debilitating perfectionism, driven by unrealistic parental expectations.

Today, I picked up Horacio Sanchez's book, "The Poverty Problem", and it reprioritized my thinking on what we should be doing as a school. From an educational and social justice standpoint, Horacio Sanchez's book is a must-read and a must-act guide for all staff who work with disadvantaged and poverty-stricken students. Definitely a 6/5! - Dr. Neil

I am an elementary principal in Richmond, Kentucky. At the end of my first year, I was barely treading water and our Chief Academic Officer brought me your book and suggested that I read through and see if I could use your work to help establish some system for a building full of trauma, 69% free and reduced lunch, and extremely diverse We established a greeting ritual and revised our master calendar to make transitions less over stimulating. It made a HUGE difference. This year, I dove into “The Poverty Problem,” and we layered on a beginning-of-class routine, and it is spreading and improving our culture daily. Thank you!! Your work gave me the tether I desperately needed to continue, and my staff and students have greatly benefited.
