Durham Charter School celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month. Meet Sra. Arias, Elementary School Counselor. Sra. Arias is from Winston-Salem, NC and immigrated at 6 years old from Buenos Aires, Argentina where she was born. This is her 2nd year at DCS.
"Although our accents may be different or the way we call fruits and vegetables may differ, we all share strong values in family, hard work and sharing the love (& food)! Some of my favorite memories include sharing stories and eating yummy food (empanadas, facturas, etc.) with aunties or cousins as we share in the tradition of drinking mate. In Latino culture, we have LOTS of aunties and cousins, not all "blood-related" but of the heart nonetheless. One of my favorite feelings is no matter how many years it's been since I've seen my family (in Argentina), the love remains strong, shown by lots of hugs & kisses! We are a very touchy & close-knit people, our collective "love language" is touch for sure!"
