5th grade's beginning of the year cup stacking challenge! We might be building with cups, but we're also building communication, cooperation, and collaboration skills that will help us all year long!

Did you know that the #1 way to get better at reading is.... to read! Students who read for 20 minutes a day are exposed to almost 2 million words a year and are more likely to read at or above grade level at the end of the year!

Ms. Delvalle's 4th graders have already started their daily indepedent reading. And while reading every day helps students improve their reading assessment data - it helps build something even more important: kids who love reading!

¿Sabía que la mejor manera de mejorar la lectura es... ¡leer!? Los alumnos que leen 20 minutos al día se exponen a casi 2 millones de palabras al año y tienen más probabilidades de alcanzar o superar el nivel de lectura correspondiente a su grado al finalizar el año escolar.

Los alumnos de cuarto grado de la Sra. Delvalle ya han comenzado su lectura independiente diaria. Y si bien leer todos los días ayuda a mejorar los resultados de las evaluaciones de lectura, también contribuye a algo aún más importante: ¡formar niños a quienes les encanta leer!

Carolina del Norte utiliza un sistema que combina el nivel de competencia académica (el número de estudiantes que aprueban los exámenes estatales) con el crecimiento académico (una medida de cuánto aprenden los estudiantes cada año) para asignar una calificación con letras —de la A a la F— a cada escuela.

Si bien seguimos creyendo que ninguna escuela debe definirse únicamente por una calificación, nos llena de orgullo y entusiasmo anunciar que Glenn ha mejorado tres niveles en la escala de calificaciones en cinco años y ahora es una escuela con calificación "B". Además, hemos alcanzado o superado las metas de crecimiento académico cada año durante los últimos cinco años, ¡y somos la ÚNICA escuela de DPS que ha logrado aumentar su nivel de competencia académica durante cinco años consecutivos!

Estas cifras son importantes gracias a los estudiantes, maestros, familias y miembros del personal que las hacen posibles. La perseverancia de nuestros estudiantes, el compromiso de nuestros maestros y la convicción de nuestro equipo de que todos los alumnos merecen una educación excepcional —sin importar su código postal— han llevado a Glenn a este momento histórico en el que nos situamos entre el 17% de las mejores escuelas de todo el estado de Carolina del Norte.

North Carolina uses a system that combines school proficiency (the number of students who pass state tests) with school growth (a measure of how much students learn each year) to assign a letter grade to each school, A-F.

While we continue to believe that no school should be defined solely by a grade, we are incredibly proud and excited to announce that Glenn has jumped three letter grades in five years and is now a "B" school! We have also met or exceeded growth every year for the past five years and are the ONLY school in DPS with five years of proficiency increases!

These numbers matter because of the students, teachers, families, and staff behind them. The persistence of our students, the commitment of our teachers, and our team's belief that all students deserve an exceptional education, no matter their zip code, has led Glenn to this historic moment when we are in the top 17% of the entire state of North Carolina.

We've always known it, but we want to share with the world that Glenn is a great place to "B!"
