We are the workers at Duke University Press. A unit of The NewsGuild, a sector of the Communication Workers of America.

As workers, we believe that we are best equipped to determine our own needs and should have the power to meet them collectively.

UPDATE: On Wednesday, Duke University and Duke University Press management petitioned the National Labor Relations Board to invalidate the results of our union election and hold a new election at an unspecified later date. You can read more about their objections in this letter we sent today to management: https://www.dupworkersunion.org/news/regarding-dukes-election-objections

None of the objections materially affected the election—we had an overwhelming turnout of 96% of eligible voters. It's notable that Duke waited until after the vote count to raise objections. What kind of message does it send for Duke to be so opposed to the idea of workers having a voice that they would drag us all into a legal morass rather than accept the results of the election? We ask DUP management & Duke to drop these frivolous objections to the election results by Monday, respect the results like they said they would, & begin to negotiate with us to make the press a better place.
