Two of our current students, Nick Kolhmann (Episcopal Diocese of East Carolina) and Weston Curnow (Episcopal Diocese of Kansas) were invited to attend the Preaching Excellence Program, held by the Episcopal Preaching Foundation. We are thankful for their investment in the next generation of preachers!

After graduation, Sami Moll, M.Div. ’25, is heading to Virginia Commonwealth University to pursue chaplaincy and patient counseling.

Moll has spent her time at Duke Divinity grounded in advocacy, worship, and community, from participating in AEHS to leading in Chapel Band and more.

“My time at Duke has taught me how to integrate my love of research with helping others,” Moll shares. “I have learned to lean into my spiritual gift of speaking up for myself and others. Being an advocate and disrupter is a powerful gift.”

Moll's learned that knowledge can help others, which is why she so valued learning from Dr. Valerie Cooper at Duke Divinity, naming her "Segregated Sundays" course as one that was most impactful.

"I am blessed to have learned from Dr. Cooper. She is empathetic, authentic, and a truth teller," says Moll.

"She listens to students and encourages them to speak up. She has an image of the church to be and gives students the opportunity to learn how to get there. She encourages students to do difficult work and helps students process it."

We are thankful for Sami and excited to see her ministry continue to unfold.

Last week, AEHS was thrilled to attend the conference, Tending the Vineyard: A Conference on Church Growth hosted by The Living Church and St. Francis in the Fields Episcopal Church in Louisville, Kentucky.

Topics included growth and decline, leadership development, global perspectives, and agrarian and monastic wisdom on work, place, and community. Dr. Ellen Fr. Davis, Amos Ragan Kearns Distinguished Professor of Bible and Practical Theology gave a talk on agrarian perspectives with her presentation, “Truth Springs Up from the Earth”: Grounding in Scripture and Community.

Ellen Davis will serve as one of the experts at the upcoming conference hosted by The Living Church and St. Francis in the Fields Episcopal Church.

Register for the conference to get refreshed in thinking and planning theologically, realistically, and hopefully about church growth and health in the Episcopal Church. Topics will include growth and decline, leadership development, global perspectives, and agrarian and monastic wisdom on work, place, and community.

Whether they are seeking parish renewal or personal refreshment, participants will enjoy stimulating keynotes, conversations, great food, quality time with colleagues, and Q&A with experts and mentors.

The conference is in-person only, but select portions of the talks will be available post-conference through online content.
