Four years ago, my daughter dropped off my ballot. Last night, I had the honor of her doing it again. Four years ago, I had the privilege and honor of becoming one of your board members. It’s my hope that I’ve earned your trust to serve you and your family for another four years.
Still undecided? Here are a few of my key points:
1) I am the only candidate for Durham School Board that is currently a classroom teacher and see how policies from the top affect students each and every day. “Are we doing what’s best for ALL students?” This is a question I ask myself with each board decision I make. All children in Durham deserve to have the highest quality education, to be AND feel safe at school, and to be prepared for their future.
2) Communication from the school district to the community needs to improve. I’m happy to say that is in the works as the district website and three social media accounts (Facebook, Instagram, and X) are active and updated regularly. Our school district thrives when our community is involved. There is so much community support for Durham Unified, which proves how blessed we are. The community deserves to be communicated with, both early and often.
3) Durham Unified Staff need to be and feel supported. Staff, students, and the community do not exist in their own separate columns. What happens to one affects the other. When our staff is supported, our students thrive, and the trust from our community increases. I’m interested in recruiting AND retaining the very best staff, and there are a number of ways Durham can compete with other local districts.
So get out there and VOTE! YOU are what makes Durham the special place it truly is. I’m blessed to call Durham my home and to have served this wonderful community for the last four years. I look forward to serving our community for another four years.
Thank you! ❤️🤍💙
