What a group of rockstars! The KIPP Durham College Prep team crushed last week & were super jazzed about how behaviors were configured and aligned to core values: Knowledge, Creativity, Determination, and Pride!
If your child is failing at this school, you will find out when report cards come to you. The lack of communication is inexplicable. The teacher just told me basically she has over 100 students, and it's not her responsibility to let me know anything she said; I should look at the paychecks. Her attitude was so uncaring, and as a parent whose child is failing, that is unacceptable.

Mr. Lofstedt, what is the most joyful part of your job?
The most joyful part of my day is welcoming cubs to school as they get off the bus. Each day is a fresh start and we all have the opportunity to learn and grow more than the day before.
Who inspires you?
Our teachers and families inspire me to do better every single day. Their persistence, optimism and love reminds me why this work is so important and I am grateful to be by their sides.
Why do you do this work?
I decided that I wanted to be a primary school teacher because I love working with cubs as they are learning the foundations of math and reading as well as learning how to solve problems independently.
What are you passionate about?
Non-school related, my dog, Ava. There is not a day when I do not bring up my dog to my cubs. I make sure to bring her up in math problems, stories that we read throughout the day and if I have a new picture of her, then I am definitely sharing it with cubs during transition times or in the cafeteria. I am also passionate about supporting teachers. I know that cubs are more successful when their teachers are supported and cared for.

I am raising twin girls that are 3 years old during a pandemic! Ha! I think moms have so many secret talents; I'm finding the list is expanding as we navigate this "new normal!"

Dear KIPP ENC Families,
We hope this message finds you and your family healthy and well. When we last communicated with you in mid-September, we promised to return to you prior to October 15 to share our decision on reopening school. We write today to communicate that decision to all of you.
After careful consideration of all the family survey data we have complied over the past two weeks, after close examination of the rate of COVID transmission around the State of North Carolina, and given the fact that we are soon to head into cold and flu seasons, we have decided to remain fully remote through at least Quarter 2, which ends on January 29, 2021.
We know from your surveys that news of this decision will be welcomed by the vast majority of you, as so many of you continue to be concerned about the state of transmission and illness around our region, state, and country. But for others, we know this decision will be a disappointment.
Please know, however, that we were and will always be guided in our decision making by what is best for the health and safety of your children and our staff. This is one of the most difficult decisions we have had to make to date, as it deals with half a year of learning for our Pride. Make no mistake: We want our students and their teachers back in our school buildings, but we will never risk their health to make that happen. We love them, their families, and the staff too much to do otherwise.
We will continue to be in close contact with each of you as we continue with remote instruction. We are grateful for all that you have done to support your children in their instruction this year. We are humbled to be your partner in this process.
Please reach out to your child’s school with any questions or issues you might have. Our Operations and Instructional teams continue to stand ready to help marshal the resources your family needs to help support the learning of all our students daily.
