Did you know?! 🤔
There is a shortage of Ophthalmic Technicians
NATIONWIDE❗️
Ophthalmic Technicians (OpTechs) work closely with ophthalmologists, who are specialty eye doctors, to assist in caring for patients with eye diseases or injuries. 👁️
An OpTech holds many important roles in an ophthalmology practice to prepare a patient to see their eye doctor.
There are fewer than 60,000 ophthalmic technicians in the US (that number pales in comparison to 3.8 million RNs nationwide). 😳
Two major reasons for this shortage are:
- Limited awareness of the field/role
- Limited awareness of accredited training programs.
My personal goal is to increase BOTH! ✅
Duke University offers a • 1️⃣ • year Ophthalmic Technician Training Program that is fast paced and prepares you with the skills and knowledge needed to provide direct patient care, assist in surgeries, and so much more!
