This is Sophie.

She started college wanting to be a war photojournalist, pivoted after a DC policy internship, and chose international relations at Seton Hall to focus on real-world impact over theory. She joined Leland after hearing the culture lived up to the hype, stood out during our AI tailgate sprint, and ended up with a full-time offer.

Michael wanted to work on Google Brain back in 2017. The catch: they didn’t have an internship program.

So he made one.

After a few bold emails, the MIT undergrad became one of the first AI interns there in 2017, years before ChatGPT launched.

After graduating, he joined Microsoft in AI, realized that being broad wouldn’t scale, and carved out a niche in Responsible AI, working on fairness and model evaluation. Today he’s an AI strategist at a Series B startup, helping enterprises deploy agentic systems.

Somehow, he’s also been a model. And now he’s a Leland coach, helping people reach their most ambitious goals every day.
