Check out these photos from the CHEM 409 lab yesterday!Students observed the flame colors and spectral lines of different metal salts. The magenta is from strontium, the red flame should be from lithium and the lime green is from boron. Very cool!

National Chemistry Week Day 2: T-Shirt Chromatography! Permanent marker was used to draw designs on cotton squares (stationary phase) and rubbing alcohol (mobile phase) was dropped on to the ink. As the isopropanol spreads throughout the fabric, it carries the ink molecules with it causing the designs to spread out!
