SE Talent Search - STEPS

What an amazing enrichment opportunity our Talent Search Junior and Seniors had out in Western Oklahoma and then up to Colorado Springs! From Southwestern Oklahoma State University to the University of Colorado Colorado Springs, we learned about programs available and what makes each campus unique. We seen all the sites from the Cadillac Ranch to the Royal Gorge all the way up to Pike’s Peak. We got to speak to some amazing career related folks along the way!! Already missing the mountain weather!! Thank you to Gene with Overland Charters for driving our crew!!

This past weekend, Southeastern Talent Search's Jr and Srs embarked on an empowering journey to OKC, where they immersed themselves in a transformative college and careers tour. Students explored UCO in Edmond including the forensic laboratory and that amazing Campus Connect Student Union, OU's Center of Allied Health, gaining invaluable insights into the rigorous yet rewarding paths of radiology, sonography, and other medical careers. Following the tours, they engaged in collaborative, high-level critical thinking challenges at Red Door Escapes.

Students had an impactful workshop focused on pivotal next steps, including FAFSA, final scholarship applications, admissions, and enrollment deadlines, as well as expert advice from academic advisors. As the year enters its final quarter, students are motivated to finish strong, equipped with the knowledge and inspiration to drive positive change in their lives. Thankful for great staff and amazing participants in SE Talent Search!!

The 2026-2027 Petroleum Scholars scholarship application is currently OPEN! If you are the parent or grandparent of a student, or know a student majoring in Petroleum Engineering, GeoEnergy Engineering, Geosciences, or Energy Management at Oklahoma State University, the University of Oklahoma, or the University of Tulsa this email is for YOU.

Scholarship applications are accepted until Friday, March 1st, 2026 at 11:59pm.

In the past two years, nearly 50% of students that applied were awarded scholarships!

As a reminder, scholarship amounts for students majoring in Petroleum Engineering, Geosciences, or Energy Management are:

• Freshman: $4,000
• Sophomore: $5,000
• Junior: $6,000
• Senior (graduating May 2027): $7,500

OSU students majoring in Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering with a minor or concentration in Petroleum Engineering are eligible to apply and, if selected, will be awarded 1/2 of the scholarship amount listed above.

8th Grade Winter “STEAM Event” trip to SE with Talent Search members and staff as we learned full steam about careers in STEM related fields with an outlook for need and growth/development for our state and beyond!! We call them critical occupations and 9 out of the top 10 are STEM related!! It was fast and furious!! Our community service project was Christmas cards for local senior citizens from our department staff and students!! Thankfull for the 60 students who attended our event and shared some of the Christmas Cheer.

9th and 10th Grade Eastern Oklahoma Colleges and Careers Tour Summer 2025. Students toured Eastern Oklahoma State College, Northeastern State University Talequah, and OSUIT in Okmulgee. Career guest included Kiamichi Electric Cooperative and Choctaw Nation Wild life Conservation officer and Light Horse Patrolmen. Special thanks to Choctaw Tribal Council woman Jennifer Woods for her generous hospitality in allowing us to use her community center and sharing her wisdom and encouragement !! A great trip seeing some of Eastern Oklahoma’s best!!

Summer Reflections!!! 2025 Lego STEM camp for our 10th-12th Students. They learned about block coding, careers in STEM Fields and built a simulated town. Took a campus tour and aviation tour.. got a few hours in the pool 😂 Loved this group of students!!
