We are planning a huge event for Thursday, September 24, from 5:30 to 8 pm called Huddle Up and Read!

It will be a big evening celebration for all things literacy on the Steel Valley High School football field taking place under the lights! Free books, free food, lots of community building, resource tables, book fair... the whole shebang. Definitely keep this event on your radar as look for even more details as the days go by.

Growing up in the Knoxville area, a.k. payne started writing plays in middle school.

None featured the “Blackwomen storytellers” in her Pittsburgh family – a great-grandmother who sang in nightclubs in the 1940s or the “very smart and kind” grandmother a.k. was named after, and who died long before the 28-year-old playwright was born.

Both ancestors are characters in “BURNBABYBURN: an american dream,” a play that will have its world premiere Aug. 29 and run till Sept. 13 in the backyard theater space at August Wilson House in the Hill District. August Wilson House is coproducing the play with the Pittsburgh Playwrights Theatre Company.
