There is soooo much that can significantly impact behavior, and much of it goes beyond things that we can readily/objectively control or measure. With enough training, we can measure what kind of work was presented, what types of reinforcers were used, how frequently those reinforcers were available, etc. But behavior can also vary when a staff has recently broken up with her boyfriend, when a holiday is coming up, etc. One of the reasons I'm bringing this up is, when, as a consultant, you hear that __________ is happening, before getting deterred, just take an open-minded look at what is going on. It may be something you haven't thought of looking at.

Estamos gostando muito das ideias de Steve Ward sobre como incorporar brincadeiras no atendimento, trabalhando varias habilidades de forma lúdica, como por exemplo seguimento de instrução, discriminação auditiva, controle da impulsividade, contato visual, troca de turno, tolerância à perda, etc.

O livro está em inglês mas a leitura é fácil - simples o bastante para pais e professores aproveitarem, mas técnica o bastante para analistas do comportamento. Não é sempre que um livro consegue agradar a gregos e troianos!

Announcement: We are now officially offering a 2-day, "deep dive" behavioral retreat on June 25 and 26 in Edgerton, Wisconsin (that is in the southern part of the state, between Janesville and Madison). We are putting a cap of 10 participants and, in the interest of maximizing the experience for those 10 participants, we are not offering this as a webinar. This workshop/retreat is for motivated BCBA's and highly motivated BCaBA's interested in improving their capacity to problem-solve issues with their clients.

It is interesting to see how "control" and anxiety go together. People, especially our learners suffering with anxiety, tend to crave control much more intensely during and after periods of agitation. Of course, a simpler explanation for controlling the speed of getting home when it is dark outside is that it shortens the time spent in the dark (i.e., escape). But that doesn't explain why, when home in the light, the scooter needs to get put far away and Mum and Dad both have to come remove a toy box from a bedroom. This last example, especially, suggests that the learner is reestablishing control as a means of reducing his anxiety.
