Before there was a boat club in our favorite little city, we had the Yacht club. Some History:

An early Dunedin Yacht Club was organized on February 9, 1903 (sometimes noted as incorporated that year). It emerged as the town grew into a winter resort area after the arrival of the Orange Belt Railway in 1888 and incorporation in 1899. Affluent residents along Victoria Drive formed the club for sailing races and an annual regatta. By the late 1920s, many original members had aged, and interest declined.

Library Hall (Site of the 1903 Dunedin Yacht Club) This was the home of the original Dunedin Yacht Club, organized on February 9, 1903.
A large community building constructed in the early 1880s (around 1883–1888) in what is now Edgewater Park (between Main and Scotland Streets).
The first floor included a hall used by yacht owners as an assembly/meeting place, plus a three-room apartment. The Yacht Club occupied a portion of it.

The second floor featured an auditorium with a stage and dressing rooms, hosting dances, roller skating, Christmas parties, and social events.

It also housed Dunedin's early public library (starting ~1895, after a book donation by Christopher B. Bouton), which led to the name Library Hall.

The building served as a central social hub for winter residents and locals. It no longer stands in its original form (the site is part of Edgewater Park today).
