Yesterday at TRAILS, students had a little bit of everything! We read The Good Egg and then put the lesson into a craft. Students worked on story ideas while learning about Newton’s First Law and testing inertia with water cup races. We also got outside for soccer practice, working on passing, shooting, and penalty kicks, with some fraction practice mixed in too!

This Week’s Book Recommendation: Bluey 5-Minute Stories

As part of our new grant cycle objectives, we are excited to focus on supporting Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) growth across all grade levels! Here’s a look at what our students will practice this week:

K–2 Focus: Students will practice active listening and learn how listening to others helps us learn about the people around us.

3–6 Focus: Older students will explore the three parts of our BrainTree and how they help us take care of our bodies, understand our emotions, and tap into our thinking and creativity.

We chose Bluey 5-Minute Stories as this week's recommendation because Bluey and her family bring these concepts to life through relatable, engaging adventures that showcase active listening, emotional regulation, and self-awareness.

Our TRAILS clubs are off to a great start! Students explored SEL through The Bad Seed, using discussion and a hands-on craft to think about choices and growth. They also learned how stories and roller coasters can work together as they began designing their own Plot Coasters. In another club, students put volleyball serves to the test, using the scientific method to see which serving style was the most accurate.

Our clubs are off to a great start! Students jumped right into reading, building, creativity, and hands-on activities yesterday. They explored new stories, designed and built their own creations, learned the basics of disc golf, practiced counting money through imaginative play, and even got into character with pirate names, hats, and lingo. We’re excited to see what they come up with next!

We're back!

Yesterday, students tried their hands at a castle-building challenge using just index cards, tape, and scissors, learned about the history of walls and buttresses before building their own with LEGOs, and practiced teamwork through Pictionary and relay races. Other groups learned new card games like UNO No Mercy and DOS, enjoyed imaginative free play, and worked together to vote for STARS officers, and choose a yearbook theme.

Just another afternoon of clubs with a little bit of everything!

Did you know October 9 is a half day at DCS? We did! Which means it’s a perfect day to host an afternoon painting party! 🎃

On Friday, October 9 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM, we’ll be painting pumpkins! Swing by the Tripp Community Room any time between 2 and 4 so your child can jump in on the action. Pumpkins will be limited, so please call the library to reserve your pumpkin today! 🎨

All supplies will be provided. Best for kids 5 and up and those under 10 need an adult to supervise. Thank you! 📚
