We are thrilled to share some of the wonderful work happening behind the scenes to support our students’ emotional well-being and social confidence! Our School Social Worker, Mrs. McMahon, has been busy facilitating small social skills groups designed to help students navigate and learn the language and tools they need to navigate their feelings and friendships successfully.
By using two frameworks, The Zones of Regulation and the Social Thinking; We Thinkers! series, we are helping students build a foundation for lifelong social-emotional success.
The Zones of Regulation is a simple, color-coded curriculum designed to help students foster self-regulation and emotional control. Instead of labeling emotions as "good" or "bad," we categorize them into four colored zones. This helps students identify how their bodies feel and how their minds are processing information without judgment.
To complement the Zones, we also utilize Social Thinking: We Thinkers! (Volumes 1 & 2) curriculum. While the Zones focus on self-regulation, We Thinkers! focuses on social-regulation and how we interact with the world around us. Through engaging stories and play-based activities, students learn complex social concepts broken down into "Social Thinking Vocabulary," such as: Thinking with Your Eyes, The Group Plan, Body in the Group, Hidden Rules & Expected/Unexpected Behaviors to name a few.
