Alworth alumni scholars! Here’s an opportunity from

The Duluth Children’s Museum is seeking presenters for a new Women in STEM series this fall. We’re looking for women working in STEM fields who are interested in sharing their careers, passions, and experiences with local children and their caregivers.

We are looking to fill the following dates (10:30am programs):
• September 2
• October 7
• November 4
• December 2

Presentations should be approximately 30 minutes and designed for children ages 0–10 and their caregivers. Interactive demonstrations, hands-on activities, tools of the trade, experiments, specimens, or simple career talks are all welcome.

No previous public speaking or teaching experience is required - we’re simply looking for people who are excited to share what they do and help children discover the many possibilities STEM has to offer.

Know someone who would be a great fit? We’d love referrals and shares!

This week we wrap up the high school ceremonies for Alworth scholars. 93 high school students were awarded this year. Each one spending hours and hours of dedication to their academics and their futures to get to where they are today. We are so excited to have a front row seat to their tomorrows.

Here are a few more photos from high school award ceremonies this month. In total, 93 high school seniors were selected to receive the Alworth Scholarship. Each award is $24,000. 🙌

What you see: Students on a stage holding a certificate in their hands.

What we see: Years and years of hard work, perseverance, dedication, and support from a whole bunch of folks; family, friends, coaches, mentors, staff, and teachers. And in some cases it was maybe just one person rooting for them to get here because sometimes that’s all it takes. ❤️

We are so proud of you all.

Thank you for inviting us to take part in the first The Duluth Blueprint: Building the City We Imagine event earlier this week.

Over 100 community members gathered for professional development and conversations about how to build our future.

Did you know that Alworth scholars can use their scholarship outside of the Duluth area? Our founder knew that the Alworth scholarship would help remove barriers to studying at a student’s top choice school. Our founder also knew that many of those scholars would find their way back to our region and become an essential part of our community. And they have!

From our Executive Director, Breanne:

“Last week I attended this presentation by Dr. John Gustafson. It was an excellent deep dive into the faculty and staff over the years and US history and how it has impacted our need for physicists. Space race, cold war, Vietnam and now climate change and AI just to name a handful of major world impacts to math and science education. John and his brother Daniel were both Alworth scholars. MWAH is the Marshall W. Alworth Hall at UMD. Learning about the history and legacy of Marshall W.’s gifts continues to be an honor. How lucky I am to do this work.”

The centerpieces for the Alworth Annual Dinner and Social featured the following:
- vintage apothecary bottles to represent medicine
- photos of the Alworth family
- locally sourced dried prairie flowers
- vintage typewriters from Nickila Typewriter

The Alworth Memorial Fund was founded in 1949 and for many years work was done with typewriters. Scholarship applications, letters of recommendation and professional communications.

Thank you Nickila Typewriter for taking us back in time with these beautiful machines!
