Every semester the Department of Education hosts the Community Advisory Council for Teacher Education, or CACTE. This is made up of cooperating teachers and other area educators who join us to give feedback about our programs that helps us continually improve.
We'd like to offer our deep gratitude to those who took time out of their week to participate with us last week, November 28th. We had 14 area educators, along with our dedicated program faculty and staff. The feedback and conversations we had will help us improve moving forward, and we look forward to more conversations in the spring!

Caitlin does a great job with EMAE!
Meet Caitlin Efta, a senior who is majoring in Integrated Elementary and Special Education and is also the president of Education Minnesota Aspiring Educators UMD!
Her most meaningful experience at UMD?
“The most meaningful experience I have had throughout my years of college is when I joined the Aspiring Educators organization on campus. When I did this I gained many opportunities that I was unable to be a part of before.”
Her favorite thing about her program?
“I love how inclusive and connected the students within the major are to each other. I have never seen so much collaboration between a group of people!”

Dr. Jennifer Frisch's course, IESE (Integrated Elementary and Special Education) 4346: Teaching Science and Environmental Education 2, did some hands-on work.
Teacher candidates are learning about engineering design processes by trying out ways to design a device (windmills in this case) that converts wind energy into mechanical energy, supporting a MN 5th grade physical science benchmark.
