Duluth Edison received a 2025 Innovation award from the Minnesota Association of Charter Schools for our professional development program for teachers.
In 2022, as our District Leadership Team embarked on a 9-month MnMTSS Cohort journey, we quickly discovered many truths that led to an overhaul of how we approach professional development within our district. Much like the Multi-Tiered Systems of Support we provide our students, our teachers also require a teacher-centered and tiered approach to professional development based on research about how adults learn best. A better, more cohesive system and model needed to be developed so we created one! With the principles of Adult Learning Theory in mind and results from staff professional development surveys/ interviews we created a scaffolded, 3-year New Teacher Training and Mentorship Program, a yearly choice-based professional development day, as well as small group professional development through house teams, staff meetings, and the use of our 1:1 instructional coaching model with identified teachers. This new multi-tiered, targeted approach allows staff more professional opportunities directly related to their immediate needs and less ‘wasted’ time in professional development that does not directly apply to their roles, needs, or personal goals. Having an intentional, structured system in place allows our district to focus professional development on our district goals while maintaining previous initiatives and individualizing learning for all staff.

To give the city and county more time to plow roads we will have a 2 hour late start today, Thursday, April 3.
​From our parent and student handbook:
School starts two hours later and dismisses at regular times. Buses pick up students two hours later (bus stops remain the same and cannot be changed). Before school Eagle’s Nest programs will be canceled. No impact on after-school programs. Afternoon and evening activities will be held as scheduled.

Visitation and Funeral for Randey Rich
Sunday, April 6, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Downs Life Celebration Center, 1902 N 34th Street, Superior.
Monday, April 7, from 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. funeral service at United Presbyterian Church, 229 N 28th Street, Superior.

Due to the large number of staff and students who would like to attend the funeral we will be closing school on Monday, April 7 so that anyone who wishes can attend.

The student developed memorial which is at North Star Academy will remain in place until the end of the day on Friday. Randey's wife, Carolyn has asked us to bring this to the funeral. We will have it set up at the visitation on Sunday and at the funeral on Monday. Any other memorials at the either school will also be brought to the visitation and funeral.
