"I think a lot of people in their lives, they're trying to leave a mark, whether it's in their field or in their city. It's really cool that we're given the opportunity by the University and by the city to express ourselves and potentially influence what actually gets built there."

Telling timeless stories through dance ✨

UMD Theatre presents Dancing Tales
Feb 13-15 | MPAC Main Stage | Free rush tickets for UMD students
ABOUT THE SHOW
Comprising seven individual pieces — each inspired in some way by folklore or foundational cultural stories — “Dancing Tales” will be a showcase of the skill and talents of the gifted UMD dance community. Four of the pieces in the show were choreographed by UMD students, two by faculty, and, in a preview of their stand-alone performance on February 17, one piece is from guest artist Ragamala Dance Company member Jothika Gorur.
Whether a 21st century spin on a classic Slavic folktale of ingenuity and resilience, a work rooted in Hmong culture (complete with dragon puppetry), a supernatural tap duet, a take on the Garden of Eden, a piece drawing from the story of Odysseus and Circe, or a fantasia on lovelorn folk ballads, the cultural touch points behind these works will inspire character-driven dramas; engaging, human-centered spectacles; and stories of resilience and community.
