Thanks to CrossFit Dubuque for donating mats for our new weight room! Thanks to our students who helped move them. Now we need to figure out a floor plan and a configuration for the mats. Sounds like a great cross curricular activity!

What better way to start the year than by getting up, moving around, and learning by doing!

Students practiced pounding nails while exploring different types of hammers, wood grain, leverage, force, and tool control. This kind of hands-on play gives students a chance to discover their skills while learning the science behind working with wood.

We even had a visit from Java, a local certified therapy dog!

A huge thank you to Hormel (Progressive Processing, LLC) in Dubuque for donating brats and hotdogs for our Summer Program! We had over 40 students enjoy the cookout this summer. Students continued to work hard earning credits until the very end of summer school.

Former Central Alternative HS para, Ann, notices the great work the AVC does in giving back to the community! She reached out asking if a summer program student would be interested in yard work. Jon-Elliott spent a couple of hours earlier this month weeding Ann's yard and flower beds.
